Young pantsula dancers to rock Artscape Arena on June 16

The much-anticipated, fun-filled Ayatshis’amateki Mapantsula Competition is set to once again rock Artscape Theatre when various Isipantsula youth groups find their pride in a competition where elegance and originality of dress is combined with strictly encoded and virtuoso dance-movements.

This year’s competition is scheduled for 16 June 2018 and will witness the first show of 16 groups of finalists aged between 7 – 25 taking to the stage for the semi-finals at 14:00, to compete for 6 available spots for the final round, scheduled for 17:00 at Artscape Arena.

The adjudicators, Nkosinathi Mngomezulu, Philiswa Xhaga, Duncan Maphanga and Stone Move Galela will select groups from across the Western Cape province based on display of entertainment value, creativity, style interpretation, teamwork, dance techniques (only Isipantsula moves), energy, stage presence and timeous execution.

Isipantsula is a prominent popular sub-culture, which emerged in the 1970’s and incorporates language, dress code, music, and dance. The dance competition forms part of the Artscape Youth month festivities and is aimed at providing a platform to showcase the talent in the Isipantsula Dance Genre.

Participants still have a chance to enter this year’s competition by submitting their 3-10-minute-long videos or YouTube link on the Artscape Facebook Page or via Whatsapp at 083 664 6270 before the 8th June 2018.

Prizes comprise of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place which will be announced after the audition process.
