Cape Town Opera

Cape Town Opera (CTO) is South Africa’s largest operatic performing arts company. Opera is called the “Olympics of singing” as you need a really strong voice to sing a whole story from start to finish. Opera has a rich treasure chest full of fascinating tales. isiXhosa stories have been turned into great operas. An opera performance incorporates many elements of spoken theatre, such as acting, scenery and costumes; and sometimes incorporates dance. Opera is usually performed in an opera house, accompanied by an orchestra or smaller musical ensembles.
