Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra

Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is a multi-functional professional symphony orchestra which delivers a world-class musical experience to all communities of the Western Cape. The Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO) was formed by the CPO in 2003 as part of their development and transformation plan. Most of the members of the CPYO come from historically disadvantaged communities. They attend workshops and receive one-on-one tuition.

Cape Town Opera (CTO) is South Africa’s largest operatic performing arts company. Opera is called the “Olympics of singing” as you need a really strong voice to sing a whole story from start to finish. Opera has a rich treasure chest full of fascinating tales. isiXhosa stories have been turned into great operas. An opera performance incorporates many elements of spoken theatre, such as acting, scenery and costumes; and sometimes incorporates dance. Opera is usually performed in an opera house, accompanied by an orchestra or smaller musical ensembles.

The Maynardville Open-Air Theater is an outdoor theatre in Maynardville Park, Wynberg, Cape Town, South Africa. It seats 720 people and is known for its annual Shakespeare in the Park plays.

Cape Town City Ballet

Cape Town City Ballet (CTCB) is the oldest surviving performing arts company in South Africa and is the country’s premier ballet company. Over 100 performances per annum are produced in formal and informal venues in and around Cape Town, South Africa and abroad. Repertoires include all the recognised classics like Swan Lake, Giselle, and The Nutcracker, performed alongside more athletic and modern works choreographed by local and international choreographers.

Fine Music Radio – FMR 101 .3fm – Not just another radio station… but the calm in the chaos, enjoyed by discerning listeners. FMR presents a wide range of classical music programmes; providing specialist as well as easy listening. Classical and Jazz Music genres are covered exclusively. Jazz programming covers Dixieland, swing, bebop, cool, hard-bop to avant-garde and modern fusion sound. There are regular special interest programmes such as World Music, Classic Business, Book Choice and Arts Diary. FMR is proactive in promoting South African music and musicians and broadcasts topical news and interviews about a variety of cultural events in the greater Cape Town.
