If you are still one of those persons that believe there is no such thing as a free lunch, think again. Well, at least the delectable experience will be! AND, this one is particularly special as it is a combined effort between The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) and The Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and will feature the Nigerian cellist Nwuko Sunday Kelechi (pictured) and clarinettist Cameron Williams as soloists.
Pack your lunch and bring it to Artscape on Tuesday, June 4, at 1pm, grab a seat in the charming Artscape Opera House Chandelier Foyer and allow The CPO and the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra to soothe your senses with a joint concert to entertain you while enjoying your lunch.
The CPO’s resident conductor, Brandon Phillips, conducts the combined orchestra. Kelechi will perform Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello, and Stellenbosch clarinettist Cameron Williams will perform the First Rhapsody for Clarinet by Debussy. Both soloists are accomplished musicians in the CPYO, and are also well known for their chamber music and solo appearances.
Other works on the programme are Bernstein’s Candide Overture, Valse Triste and Finlandia, the Slavonic Dance no. 10 by Dvorak and the overture to Glinka’s opera, Ruslan and Ludmilla.
