African cuisine will relish your taste buds come Africa Day, 25 May at Artscape Theatre Centre as this cultural institution celebrates this annual commemoration of the foundation of our African Union.
So, come lunch for free and delight in some of the most popular African dishes, while exploring African ware on display, to the delight of choral entertainment, all taking centre stage from 12:30 – 15:00.
From the iconic Mozambican dish Galinha à Zambeziana (a succulent feast of chicken cooked with lime, pepper, garlic, coconut milk and piri piri sauce) to tantalising Akoho sy voanio (one of the most popular dishes you will find in pretty much any Malagasy restaurant) and mouth-watering chicken muamba from Angola and Namibian Harslag (cuisine) enjoyed by so many will be showcased by various Consulates of African countries including Angola, Madagascar, Namibia and Mozambique.
The celebrations will be hosted by Artscape Theatre Centre in association with the Western Cape Government in line with this year’s African Union (AU) declared theme “African Union Agenda 2063: an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the international arena” in showcasing cultural diversity through cultural exchange.
This will reinforce African solidarity, unity in diversity, highlighting creativity, challenges and successes, cultural and economic potential of the continent. It is also a platform for the continent to engage and build stronger networks/partnerships at various levels across national and international boundaries. It could also be a catalyst for connections and creation of collaborative networks from all facets of life aiming at fostering positive change in the communities (idea sharing and inspirational talks).
