Artscape theatre management and staff wishes to express our absolute joy and elation that we have now returned to normal to full capacity venues. We sincerely thank all of our patrons who had continued to support the theatre during these difficult past two years. We welcome your full return with open arms and are grateful that our cultural institution remains your theatre of choice, which we pledge to uphold as a safe environment. And we continue the buzz as we kick off the month with Zimbini Engomeni’s Cinematic Afropop music concert. The Innovation Lounge will host SA Operatunity’s Opera Recital Unmuted, and another sparkling Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Community Spectacular concert is back on the boards with Brandon Phillips on the podium. There’s also the return on the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Benefit Gala Concert while later in the month balletomanes will be enthralled as the 9th South African International Ballet Competition takes centre stage. Meanwhile gospel lovers can worship and praise with the hottest artists in this sacred genre during the In His Presence Gospel Music Concert, one of the Mother City’s hottest gospel events. All this and more at the theatre of choice.
Other exciting news is that Artscape signed an agreement with the L’Institut des Jeunes Aveugles de Toulouse, the institute for young persons with disabilities in Toulouse, France, to start with an exchange programme of collaboration on practices, that work on mainstreaming persons with disabilities in the arts expanding our international cultural exchange.
The Dream Up! Drum Up! International exchange project led by the organization Samba Résille (France), with partners on the project Barefeet Theatre (Zambia), and Artscape (South Africa), is taking place this July too. .
The group participated in the first leg of the project in March in Zambia, with the organization Barefeet theatre hosting us. Learning workshops around artistic and managerial skills included giving the youth workers artistic and managerial skills, and increasing their analysis capacities of the young people’s needs.
Looking forward to see you at the theatre!
