The 53^rd Youth Classical  Concert hosted by ARTSCAPE and the CAPE TOWN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA will be held at the Artscape Theatre, Cape Town on Saturday, 05 October 2024.   Young singers and solo instrumentalists are offered the opportunity of performing with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

PLEASE TAKE CAREFUL NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• Candidates should be bona fide full-time music students during the year of participation.  The age restriction is 23 years for instrumentalists and 27 years for singers in the year of participation.
• Candidates must be resident or studying in the Western Cape Province.
• Auditions will take place on Tuesday, 14 May 2024 at the Fismer Hall in Stellenbosch, and on Thursday, 16 May 2024 at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.   Please indicate at which centre you wish to be auditioned.   Please note that candidates are required to attend auditions at own cost.
• Candidates must arrange their own accompanists at auditions.
• Successful candidates must perform the same work at the concert as played for the audition.
• Instrumentalists are required to perform a single movement of a concerto or concertante. Two-piano works are unfortunately not acceptable.   Singers are required to perform a work for solo voice and orchestra (or an appropriate part thereof). 
• Candidates are encouraged to choose works from the standard repertoire. It is the responsibility of the candidate to check availability of orchestral parts prior to auditioning. Artscape and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will not be liable to absorb any rental costs that may arise. Librarian Neil Robertson can be contacted at neil@cpo.org.za
• A maximum duration of about 15 minutes is recommended for the performance.
• A very high concert standard of performance is essential.
• Candidates must be available for all required rehearsals at ARTSCAPE (Orchestral Studio) in Cape Town from Tuesday, 30 September 2024 (times to be announced).
