What’s happening at Artscape in November

Dear Patrons

This November month delight in a host productions at Artscape guaranteed to entertain, excite, invigorate and inspire your artistic taste buds.

Rhapsody by Zip Zap circus in collaboration with the City of Cape Town is sure to mesmerise with their daring acrobatics all performed to foot stomping music.

Delight in highlights from twelve operas by eight different composers to be performed by the Libertas Choir and Orchestra including selections from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Bizet’s Carmen and The Pearl Fishers among others.

Drama abounds in Vincent, a 2022 Standard Bank Bronze Ovation Award Winner, which tells of a complex man with a ruthless drive to create and a deep seated desire to love and be loved, in the form of a cabaret.

Be enthralled with imaginative storytelling through dance, as an Egyptian Cinderella named Rhodopis embodies the quintessential rags to riches fairy-tale, but set in ancient Egypt….and with an unexpected twist.

Opera buffs will be riveted by, seduction, betrayal, magix and intrigue as George Frideric Handel’s Alcinaorates the story of this powerful sorceress that enchants and seduces any man who dares to set foot on her island and then transforms them into wild animals, plants or stones when she tires of them.

Be sure to pack your dancing shoes for the musical/comedy romp down memory lane to the Motown Era, the disco floors and the power ballads that typified the 70’s & 80’s as That Boogie Show takes centre stage including a local live band, dynamic local singers and dancers with a dash of local comedy.

November is also National Disability Rights Awareness Month. The cultural institution creates awareness of this often marginalised cohort of persons through the Artscape ArtsAbility Festival, creating an innovative, creative space of exciting, heartfelt performances for disabled and able-bodied artists and performers that brings to the stage an array of breath-taking art pieces, which celebrates the abilities of artists with disabilities culminating on International Day for persons living with Disabilities, marked annually on 3 December. Staying true to the theme Disability, Dance and Diversity, Artscape, along the Unmute Dance Company, has partnered with guest productions from abroad – Diversity in Dance UK, Sensorium EX and Danish New York – to bring fresh, new performances for audiences to revel and immerse themselves in.

We are excited to host you at your theatre of choice and trust that you will find joy in attending these productions.
