Universal Accessibility Hub, a non-profit organization established in 2017 is running a photography and video competition calling for entries to showcase #disabilityaccess in tourism. Promoting awareness and inclusion for persons with disability is core to Universal Accessibility Hub’s values.
This national competition encourages photographers, travelers, tourism service providers and the general public to enter images and videos that promote participation of people with disabilities for an inclusive experience.
The images and videos with a location setting will be linked to the Universal Accessibility Hub online platform https://uahub.org.za for ease of access for travelers with disabilities. The competition is part of a broader awareness campaign that focuses on integration and contributes to achieving an accessible tourism industry to profile South Africa as a leading universal accessibility destination.
The essence of the photo and video entries will capture: #disabilityaccess; #tourisminclusion; #disabilityinclusion; #accessibility; #accessibilityawareness; #accessibilityforall; #integration; #disabilityawareness and #universalaccessibility.
The winner for the best photo and video will each walk away with R2500.
The closing date for the competition is on 16 November 2020, and the announcement of the winner and exhibition of the best 10 entries will be held on International Disability Day, 3 December 2020 at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town.
The competition judges include: Ms. Marlene le Roux, a South African disability and women’s rights activist, co-founder of the Women’s Achievement Network for Disability, and CEO of the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town; Mr Anesh Magan, Mr Deaf SA 2020 finalist, winner of the 2020 Childhood Cancer Photo Competition and an industrial product designer and Mr Gerhardt Coetzee, Senior Photography Lecturer at ORMS Cape Town School of Photography.
