Artscape would like to congratulate the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community on SASL ( South Africa Sign Language) being recognised as the 12th Official Language of South Africa. We would like to acknowledge the Provincial Director of DeafSA Western Cape, Jabaar Mohamed for the work they are doing to make theatre accessible to audiences who are deaf/ hard of hearing. We wish the DeafSA team and the entire Deaf and Hard of Hearing community well as the 12th Official Language is officially recognised by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the signing ceremony today, 19 July 2023.
