CALL FOR TRAINERS TO BE TRAINED IN USE OF TOOLKITS

STAND Foundation, in association with ASSITEJ, and with the support of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, has produced six toolkits aimed at building capacity within the community arts sector.

The themes of these toolkits are – Definitions, Environment and Roles; Financial Management; Fundraising and Income-Generation; Governance, Management and Staffing; Marketing and Publicity and Programming and Project Management.  They are aimed specifically at the community arts sector in South Africa and uniquely, the case studies have been drawn from community arts projects and centres around the country.

A workshop to train trainers in the use of these toolkits will take place at ARTSCAPE from Tues 14 to Thurs 16 February, from 09:30 to 16:00 each day.  The workshop is for trainers and those with some experience in facilitating workshops, rather than for those who would like to learn about any of these subjects.  Participation is free of charge and there is no payment for participants, though lunch vouchers will be provided each day.  Preference for this round will be given to those trainers based in the Cape Metro district, but who will be able to offer training in other districts before the end of March 2023.

The toolkits are available on STAND’s website www.standfoundation.org.za but will also be provided in printed form at the workshop.

It is intended that trainers who participate in the workshop will then conduct training workshops in at least one of the Toolkits in one of the districts of the Western Cape, in association with a community arts centre or partner that is a member of the Community Arts Centres Network of the Western Cape. Trainers will be paid for facilitating these workshops.

Interested trainers may participate in the training on all three days, or in the sessions in which they are particularly interested.

On Tuesday 14 February, we will deal with Fundraising and Income Generation, on Wednesday 15 February we will look at Programming and Project Management and on the final day we will cover Marketing and Publicity. The remaining three toolkits will be dealt with at a later stage.

The focus of the train-the-trainer workshops will be on how to use the toolkits to train others and build capacity within community arts centres, and within the broader community arts sector.

Anyone interested in participating in these sessions, should apply by clicking on this link https://forms.gle/EQfRiMVkHT7xB9KX7 and complete and submit the form by 17:00 on Thursday 9 February 2023.
