Symphony of Love features the sensational songstress from India, Pratibha Singh Baghel, live in concert with Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a world premiere event and is a confluence of the rich musical traditions of India with western classical music. The concert will present a curated collection of popular old film classics, current Bollywood hits, and ghazals – rearranged for orchestra.
Pratibha will be joined by a team of nine of India’s current leading musicians and backed by the remarkable Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the most versatile singers in India today, Pratibha Singh Baghel is blessed with the ability to effortlessly sing a broad range of genres including hits of the greats, such as Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Jagjit Singh, to name a few. Pratibha is the recipient of the Lata Mangeshkar Alankaran Award in 2008.
She has lent her voice to many songs in movies, as well as the hit web series Bandish Bandits. Pratibha has also featured in the highly acclaimed stage production Mughal-e-Azam. In 2019, she played the lead role and sang in the theatrical musical play Umrao Jaan Ada that was adapted for stage by the music duo Salim Sulaiman. In 2020, Pratibha released her first ghazal album titled ‘Bole Naina’, which featured the legendary lyricist Gulzar and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain. This video reached 50 million views in two days. Pratibha is regularly featured on the Sufiscore and Bazm-e-Khas channels. She has also performed live on stage with great music directors including AR Rahman and Salim Sulaiman.
Symphony of Love is conceptualised, produced, and presented by Inner Circle Entertainment who has established a successful track record of presenting musical giants such as Zakir Hussain, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Jagjit Singh, Maher Zain, and many more in South Africa. Inner Circle Entertainment is a pioneer in East West musical collaborations and has produced many world-first productions featuring cross cultural collaborations between Indian and Middle Eastern music, jazz and western orchestral music. Inner Circle has conceptualised and produced the highly acclaimed world first collaborations of Symphony of Ghazal (Deepak Pandit), Maher Zain, Symphony of Santoor (Rahul Sharma), all with Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
Underground Parking
Parking is available at the Cape Town Civic Centre’s basement parking, Mondays to Fridays between 6pm and 11pm. Parking will be available on Saturdays and Sundays as well as public holidays, for matinee and evening performances. Access to the parking area is via Jan Smuts Street.
• No cash will be accepted/handled at the entry point;
• Payments can be made with Debit/Credit card;
• The parking fees are as follows: - Normal fee: R40.00; - Pensioners: R30.00;
• The gate to the parking will be closed 15 minutes after the starting time of a performance and opened after the performance;
• For security reasons, patrons will be required to inform the attendant which production they are attending, you may also provide proof of a reservation to a production or an event, or proof of invitation to a production or event, at the entry point;
• Patrons are to contact the emergency number (021) 400 2828 in the event of an emergency;
• For your safety a security guard will be stationed at the garage entry
Wheelchair Access
Limited facilities for wheelchairs are available in the Opera House and Theatre in accordance with safety regulations. Wheelchair seats can be booked at the Artscape Box Office, at any Computicket outlet, or through the Computicket call centre. Please note that the Arena is not wheelchair friendly. Toilets for wheelchair-bound patrons aresituated in the Marble and Chandelier Foyers of the Opera House and on the lower level of the Theatre Foyer. Limited parking bays are available for bona fide Disabled Parking Disc Holders in the tunnel area opposite the Stage Door entrance, and in the staff parking area. A drop-off facility is available in the tunnel area for patrons who have difficulty walking. Prior arrangements in all regards should be made with the Theatre Manager.
