SUMMARY:The Yeomen of the Guard
DESCRIPTION:“Yeomen” is set in the Tower of London in the 16th Century. It is G & S’s most dramatic opera which has a believable story line with well-drawn characters. Intrigue\, comedy and a “tragic” ending make up the dramatic plot. This opera contains Sullivan’s most profound and beautiful music. Being in English\, it is easy to understand and to follow the story-line. All in all\, it is a very fine example of English Romantic Opera.

SUMMARY:Camissa Heritage Tour
DESCRIPTION:Camissa Heritage Tour retraces South Africa’s colonial past and it’s connection to the Netherlands. We tell the story of our Indigenous communities\, the ‘San’ and ‘Khoi’\, who inhabited South Africa’s landscape dating back thousands of years. These communities resisted the scourge of the settlers and refused to work for the Dutch East India Company (VOC). \nThis site specific performance adapted for theatre takes the audience on a route within The Castle of Good Hope and other significant sites. Through this artistic and educative project we bring an awareness to the narratives of the Indigenous People of South Africa\, the history of slavery in the Cape and colonisation by The Netherlands to attention. When we remember we reconnect with who we are. SUMMARY:5th International Social Justice Conference and 6th Annual Social Justice Summit
DESCRIPTION:The International Conference on Social Justice and the Sustainable Development Goal on Zero Hunger\, scheduled to take place at the Artscape Theatre Centre (Cape Town) on 17 October 2024\, aims to interrogate research\, policies and legal developments on hunger with a view to increasing the pace of progress in addressing hunger as one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2\, “Zero Hunger”). The International Conference will bring together academics\, lawyers\, judges and civil society researchers who are involved in research on the intersection between hunger\, social justice and human rights; to share research outputs and explore innovative solutions and best practices on the integration of data science and neuroscience in social and legal policy design processes. \nThe Summit\, which is in its sixth iteration\, is a decision-making structure that moves the needle one inch at a time on the Musa Plan. While the Summit primarily focuses on South Africa\, it also looks at the rest of the world as a benchmark. In its sixth iteration\, the Summit seeks to provide a platform to locate “Hunger” within the broader social context of structural social injustice that plunges some into hunger and related multi-dimensional aspects of poverty. The conflict\, climate change\, gender discrimination\, and weak government and health systems all play a role in driving hunger\, the Summit also seeks to integrate social justice thinking into policy-making\, with a view to accelerating the progress on the SDGs\, particularly SDG 10 (reducing inequality)\, taken with SDGs 1 (zero poverty)\, 2 (zero hunger)\, 5 (gender equality)\, 13 (climate reclamation) and 16 (peace\, justice and strong institutions). \nDate of Summit: Friday 18 October 2024 Venue: Artscape Theatre Centre\, Cape Town South Africa

SUMMARY:Orpheus McAdoo
DESCRIPTION:Cape Town Opera\, in collaboration with David Kramer\, presents Orpheus McAdoo\, a new musical that follows on from the success of Orpheus in Africa in 2015. \nThis production tells the little-known story of an African-American choir – The Virginia Jubilee Concert Company – led by Orpheus McAdoo (Conroy Scott)\, which visited South Africa in the 1890s.
