DESCRIPTION:Award winning musician Thandiswa returns to Artscape after her sold-out show in 2023 with music from her new album Sankofa (to be launched in May 2024 \nSankofa is a Twi word from the Akan people of Ghana. It means to “go back and fetch what has been left behind.” In our journeys we may lose our sense of self\, our history\, our will to fight. We may lose language or ways of being. Sankofa invites us to go back and fetch what has been lost so that we can return whole. Recorded in Johannesburg\, Dakar\, and New York\, Sankofa combines archival Xhosa music\, jazz and west African music. Largely developed with co-composer Tendai Shoko\, it includes tracks produced by Meshell Ndegeocello and Nduduzo Makhatini. \nThe Sankofa Live show will present this music alongside Thandiswa’s old classics. DESCRIPTION:The ’50 Years of Dance Celebratory Festival’ opening night gala is an exciting\, stimulating and thoroughly celebratory programme\, elevating and honouring the life-changing impact and longevity of contemporary dance in South Africa. The festival gala will showcase an exciting host of guest companies and artists\, featuring Jazzart’s young\, energetic\, and ambitious students and professional company of dancers. \nJazzart’s celebrated alumni Sifiso Kweyama\, Celeste Botha\, Shaun Oelf and Elvis Sibeko showcase works alongside multiple award-winning artists\, Vincent Mantsoe\, Gregory Maqoma and Artistic Director Dane Hurst.  They are joined by Unmute Dance Theatre in a collaborative work by Andile Vellem and Yaseen Manuel and include solos\, duets and short works created by recent graduates from Jazzart. The evening will showcase a special guest performance by music sensation Zimbini Makwetu.

DESCRIPTION:Symphony of Love features the sensational songstress from India\, Pratibha Singh Baghel\, live in concert with Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a world premiere event and is a confluence of the rich musical traditions of India with western classical music. The concert will present a curated collection of popular old film classics\, current Bollywood hits\, and ghazals – rearranged for orchestra. \nPratibha will be joined by a team of nine of India’s current leading musicians and backed by the remarkable Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the most versatile singers in India today\, Pratibha Singh Baghel is blessed with the ability to effortlessly sing a broad range of genres including hits of the greats\, such as Lata Mangeshkar\, Asha Bhosle\, Jagjit Singh\, to name a few. Pratibha is the recipient of the Lata Mangeshkar Alankaran Award in 2008. \nShe has lent her voice to many songs in movies\, as well as the hit web series Bandish Bandits. Pratibha has also featured in the highly acclaimed stage production Mughal-e-Azam. In 2019\, she played the lead role and sang in the theatrical musical play Umrao Jaan Ada that was adapted for stage by the music duo Salim Sulaiman. In 2020\, Pratibha released her first ghazal album titled ‘Bole Naina’\, which featured the legendary lyricist Gulzar and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain. This video reached 50 million views in two days. Pratibha is regularly featured on the Sufiscore and Bazm-e-Khas channels.
