Karen Zoid is known to set any stage alight with her energetic guitar solos, emotionally charged lyrics and witty sense of humor. Her music has, without a doubt, shaped our culture and she has dominated the airwaves for the past decade.
Karen is inclined to be controversial and it shows up, not only in interviews on radio and TV but also, in the lyric of her finely crafted songs. Her words, benign or controversial, speak of the world we live in. She’s rarely diplomatic and inclined to tell it as it is. This was apparent when she first magically appeared out of nowhere 16 years ago with ‘Afrikaners is Plesierig’. Maybe she gets our collective ear by telling us things we don’t want to know – but demand to hear! Yet, it’s always the truth and that’s what ultimately shines through her critically acclaimed body of work.
She’s received numerous awards and has had more than 32 number one hit singles on iTunes. She’s performed with the likes of Annie Lennox, John Mayer and Metallica and, according to TIME Magazine, she’s an icon in the South African music scene. She currently hosts her own TV talk show on DSTV/KykNet – Republiek van Zoid Afrika – attracting interviews and sharing songs with many prolific artists and prominent people in South Africa.
The good news is that she’s performing at the Artscape Theatre on the 20th of June, 2018. Karen (and her band) will have you at the edge of your seat. It’s a show (if you manage to get tickets in time) unlike any other – a must see!
