Cape Town City Ballet subscribes to the ethos and life values of IKIGAI, a Japanese philosophy of life purpose, life happiness & life peace. Suitably depicted in those three ideas are the ballets FALLING ANGELS, LES PATINEURS & POLARITY.
One of Jiri Kylian’s masterworks for eight women Falling Angels is mesmerising, bristling with the power of the female persona ….scintillating in its complexity & richness of movement.
Frederick Ashton’s LES PATINEURS (The Skaters) .. a party of ice skaters on a frozen pond joyfully depict Ashton’s virtuosic choreography of charming divertissements in a beautiful trellised setting. Delightful in its humour, lyrical adagio of the lead couple, as the “spills & thrills” of the Blue Boy & friends show masterfully and multitudinous pirouettes and leaps… as the snow starts to fall the skaters glide away.
Award-winning, Kenneth Tindall’s POLARITY is inspired by the suggestion that opposites are interconnected and everything is duel….. A Yin & a Yang… complimentary principles of elements that present as opposite, but are possibly two inseparable parts of the same thing…. Harmony & balance emerges …. The outcome can only be peace.
