A play set within a bedroom follows the story of a character, Bossiekop, and her resident hairstylist and best friend Leticia as the two engage in their usual Sunday-evening regime of styling Bossiekop’s very coarse hair. On this particular Sunday evening it is evident that Bossiekop is not open to having her hair styled. Alarmed, Leticia questions her, and this then leads to an intense debate and discussions which have been shaped by narratives of woman and their experiences of having kroes hair, and how society responds to it. The debate also unpacks the house dynamics and politics surrounding hair texture, discrimination and bullying at school, insecurities, sexism and the exoticism and commodification of the kroeskop culture. The production is a mono-drama and the characters will be told from various perspectives using one actress.
